MIT-Yale team’s recycling robot sorts paper, metal by touch

MIT CSAIL and Yale University researchers have built a recycling robot ‘RoCycle’ that can sort paper, plastic and metal by touch. Two pressure sensors distinguish paper from plastic by squeezing the object, while its sensors are also conductive and help identify metals. The robot is 85% accurate for stationary objects but only 63% accurate with a simulated conveyor belt.
